Old Delhi’s markets are one of the most crowded places on planet earth but once we got used to it Roi and I really fell in love with them and went there on both our visits to India. Unlike the more touristy areas where every foreigner is constantly hassled, these markets are for locals and foreigners are not treated any different than other customers.
We loved the yummy street food like water chestnuts, lassie, , kulfie ice cream, freshly squeezed lemonade, roasted corn on the cob, butter cookies, all kinds of fruits and a huge variety of fried, cooked, baked and raw delicacies. As it was the last day of our trip we took the risk and sampled it all.
Top of the list are the endless varieties spices. Roi who did a short cooking course knew what to buy and to talk with the sellers like a seasoned local.
We strolled there for hours and every turn of the corner led to new discoveries. Walking is the only way of getting around, as all traffic from lories to rickshaws are in a permanent jam. Getting there is best by the amazing metro.
